The pavilion has been conceived as a simple, geometric form, standing in the desert in symbiosis with the landscape, and acting as ‘balcony’ looking out towards Al Zorah’s mangroves.

The folded canopy roof is reminiscent of the existing topographical strata leading down to the water. Facing south, it is clad with zinc shingles to protect the pavilion from strong sunlight and to block the noise from the highway nearby. At night, the roof is lit up with LED projectors.

The northern façade of the pavilion facing the mangroves is glazed in dark, tinted glass, providing transparency into the interior and unobstructed views of the natural landscape.

The entrance to the pavilion is cut between the roofscape and frames views of the mangroves. A walkway clad in triangular tiles of black, nero assoluto granite takes visitors out into the landscape.

Spaces open up from under a folded, crossed-cut slab. The slope of the folded roof starts from the entrance and reaches up to the highest point of the structure through an open-air staircase which beckons visitors to terraced, belvedere spaces with rooftop views of the sea.

The pavilion houses an exhibition space; a café with a terrace; a guest house at rooftop level; an administrative floor; and an internal, 150-seat auditorium that extends to the exterior for outdoor events. Car parking is underground, sheltered by a green roof.
