Gemmayzeh Townhouse

Beirut (Lebanon)

2008

Completed / Interior Architecture / Interior DesignArea - 500m²

The colourful interior architecture of this grand, Venetian-style home in one of Beirut’s oldest and most vibrant districts was inspired by the orange dates and bright green leaves of a palm tree in front of the house.

The pink, orange, green and chequered walls are dramatic design statements that reflect the buzzing nightlife scene of the traditional district of Gemmayzeh.

Furniture including oversized lampshades and furnishings like the geometric, patterned flooring, were carefully sourced to hold their own in the colourful rooms. Custom-designed pieces by AKK Architects including Diamond Tables, Little Square Tables and Desk Drawer appear in the scheme.

CAI Light installed Stocking lights, holograms featuring flames from an open fire projected onto the walls of the traditional liwan (long, narrow-fronted hall), and a large L’Aura mirror which symbolises Beirut.
