Marrakech Restaurant

Beirut (Lebanon)

2003

Completed / Interior DesignArea - 250m²

This circular, basement, Moroccan restaurant is located in Beirut’s Monot district, famous for its nightlife and gastronomic scene.

Through meticulously designed, locally manufactured lighting, textiles and furnishings, AKK Architects and CAI Light created a restaurant with an exotic, charming and authentically Moroccan atmosphere.

Marrakech restaurant is on the second basement level, and is part-owned by the Japanese restaurant on the ground floor.

Diners arrive via a central, circular lift which has been transformed into a seating area where they can sip an aperitif on the way to their table.

The main space is also circular, and was divided into distinctive, sub-spaces at various levels. When guests emerge from the lift, they find the infront of them, and the VIP lounge opposite.

The original ceiling was covered by colored, floating, neon flowers above a wide lace tent, creating a nomadic ambiance. CAI Light's wall-mounted Splashing lights and suspended Stocking lights cast patterns on walls reminiscent of a traditional moucharabieh.
