The art of dining

Beirut (lebanon)

2018

Annabel Karim Kassar imagines a dinner with Trimalchio and invites Fury with her untraditional canvasses to customize her new huge table with Marrakech stools from the annaka Collection.

Annabel’s creative,  architectural concept and the movie are part of the creative process for this “art of dining” installation.

The Scene VIIa from Fellini’s Satyricon uses absurd extravagance and an iconic bit of ancient Roman literature; the dinner with Trimalchio.

One strong simple tattooed 12-metre long table, a projection screen at one end is showing Scene VIIa of the Satyricon movie. Everyone is seated on one side of the table only.

A velvet curtain separates the room, transforming it into a projection space. The table lacqueured in a “terre d’orient colour” is set on the floor aligned on a tattooed white walkway relating to a Satyricon atmosphere. The rest of the floor is covered with wood giving a sense of earthiness to the space. The table setting and tableware follow the theme of bacchanals, decadent Roman banquets. Thanks to Violaine Jeantet, transparent and decorated black plates, handcrafted Murano coloured drinking glasses, pewter cutlery and vintage chalices from Annabel’s family are used for dressing the table.  They are reflected in the ceiling through a long mirror surface.
